What is a nurse practitioner?

Nurse practitioners (NPs) are advanced practice nurses who have completed a rigorous graduate training program, have completed national certification exams, and are licensed by the state where they practice. NPs evaluate patients, order labs and other tests, diagnose illness, and oversee treatment. NPs can prescribe medications in all 50 states and D.C. and are quickly becoming one of the most trusted members of the medical team.

There are nearly 250,000 NPs in the U.S., and that number is rapidly growing.

NPs are experts in their field and provide quality, thorough, comprehensive medical care.
