Is it safe to eat raw foods?
August 7, 2007 |
When I started to take an interest in sprouting (growing sprouts at home for consumption), I suddenly realised that there are actually quite a lot of concerns over eating raw foods. I read an advisory by the Canadian health authorities about being careful to ensure raw food is washed properly and so on. Then I read one by the Singapore health authorities that food “should” be cooked at at least 70 degrees Celsius for 5 mins or something like that.
For the benefits of raw food, particularly sprouts, you can check out my friend Taarak’s 16-page report “Secrets of Longevity” on the benefits of sprouts. My friend Vivienne has also written an interesting articles on the 10 Benefits of eating Raw Food.
With food, it is always important to take food cleanliness and safe preparation seriously. This is more so for raw food. Overall, it could arguably be safer to eat raw than cooked. After all, you cannot mask bad food with seasoning and spices if it is raw!
Hope this is helpful in at least starting you out to healthy eating!
