I have had a baby and gone through the worries that you have. I took the Valtrex and had my son vaginally. I had no complications from taking Valtrex during the last few weeks of my pregnancy and my son was born a very healthy little man.

I am thankful that my Dr. talked to me and asked me take the Valtrex because I was able to have my son vaginally. I really did not want to have a C-Section which was my other choice. I chose to take the
Valtrex and everything came out just fine.

He is still fine and was tested back then and is negative. I have even had his pediatrician check him periodically and his results are always negative. Oh and he is 4 years old now. I don’t think it can
hurt you or your unborn child by taking it. – Anon

When you are pregnant and have herpes

If you have something to say about herpes and what it’s like to be pregnant when you have herpes I’d love to hear from you. You can send me bits of advice OR your own personal story and I would be more than happy to publish it so that we can work to help people that don’t know enough about this to make a decision for themselves.

As with anything health related please see your own doctor. Our personal experiences shared do not indicate truth for everybody that is in similar situations. The information shared is based on our own personal experiences. No two herpes cases are alike.

I had my girls via vaginal deliveries. Took Valtrex during the last 6 weeks of both my pregnancies. Everything turned out fine.

Now isn’t the negative result means that you don’t have Herpes? what was the test?

If you are trying to find out if you have herpes OR not then proper herpes testing is in order. You can do that with a herpes type specific antibody test. That will tell you if you have HSV-1, HSV-2, both OR nothing at all. It’s important that everybody involved be tested so you will know best how to proceed and especially if you are pregnant.

Thanks Angela for your reply, i have already done a type specific HSV and turned out negative. But i am having tiny sores which kind of itches!

You may need to be retested because if you did indeed contract the herpes virus then it takes several weeks for the antibodies to show up.

Has your doctor seen these tiny sores that you are referring to?

oh! it’s been almost 4 years now since i started getting these mild sores! doctors couldn’t tell me exactly what it was. some told me it’s eczema, some said it’s erritation due to allergy to underware! i mean i heared almost everything including herpes… although they stated that the symptoms aren’t herpes-typical!

    *sigh*

Allowing a doctor to attempt to diagnose based on their visual inspection is just wrong.

Why didn’t you have them follow-up with proper testing? Did anybody attempt to see if you were having an allergic reaction?

I tested negative yesterday for the Herpes 2-vag. area, but I had already taken 3 valtrex that the emergency doctor gave me 3 days before.

The specific blood test was drawn-is it givin me the accurate information?
